Hanley?s new aggressive approach
I was passing over Hanley Ramirez’s FanGraphs page on the way to looking at his WAR totals for a WAR chart (the latest craze) when I saw his plate discipline numbers this season. Suffice to say, I was surprised:
Season

I was shocked initially to see that Hanley was swinging at so many pitches in general. But [...]

* A new slant on baseball issues
Thanks to the NY Times’ Freakonomics blog, I came across FlipFlopFlyball, an off-shoot of flipflopflyin.com, which offers some unusual charts regarding the national pastime. In one, we see just how many Native Americans actually live in Cleveland (which gave me a few ideas for future charts)*, an unusual representation of when teams broke the color line, [...]
An Unlikely W
If there was ever a game the Mets were destined to lose it was today's game against the Pirates. They were down 5 runs. They were playing a hated makeup game in between two tough series. They had Redding on the mound. But somehow they came back. Tatis finally produced. Church is showing Wright how to hit when it counts. Sean Green was sharp yet again. The defense was solid. K-Rod had to make things too exciting, but was given a chance at redemption thank...
