Chicago Cubs Prospect Profile: Michael Brenly
The Cubs organization liked what the saw in Michael Brenly so much they drafted him twice. The Cubs picked Brenly the first time in the 43rd round back in 2005 then took him again in the 36th round three years later.
Brenly is the son of Len Kasper's broadcast partner and one of the candidates to succeed Lou Piniella in the Cubs dugout. Michael's father Bob, a former Major League catcher and part-time third baseman, is currently in his second stint...
Cubs Minor League Wrap: July 29
Last man standing: Is Lilly the next starting pitcher to be traded?
With the Astros trading Roy Oswalt to the Phillies today, 3 of the top pitchers on the market have now found new homes (Cliff Lee, Dan Haren and Oswalt).
Who’s left? None better than the Cubs Ted Lilly. However, the list of teams interested in the lefty is dwindling.
It was reported earlier by Jayson Stark that [...]

Obsessive Ted Lilly Trade Watch: Whither Mets and Twins?
Soon after the Philadelphia Phillies bowed out of the Ted Lilly acquisition dance, it appears that the New York Mets and Minnesota Twins may also be heading home alone. The New York Post has reported that a Lilly to the Mets deal is “very doubtful” because the team is not willing to take on the [...]

Hendry on Brink of Trade Deadline Fail
With less than 48 hours to go on the trade deadline and the Cubs season over long ago, Hendry seems on the brink of not being able to move any of his overpriced talent.
Well-done sir.
The latest of course is that Derrek Lee wouldn't waive his NTC to go to the Angels who happen to reside in Southern California
MLB Gives Me Another Reason to Not Buy Cubs Season Tickets Next Year
I just came one step closer to not giving a damn if I give up my Cubs season ticket package for next year. Earlier today one of my intrepid podcast buddies, Adam Kellogg, tweeted out the following message:
Chicago Cubs: Suitcases and Nutcases
Well, we knew this was coming. Big Z's been the resident Robert DeNiro from "Taxi Driver" for years now, and finally went off for real. This team we all knew wasn't very good - even with our lowered expectations it's...
Carlos Lee'd (Game Recap: Cubs 1, Astros 8)
At some point I'm going to look up the phrase, "Starting pitcher kept team in game, offense failed to capitalize on opportunities, secondary bullpen pitchers put game out of reach," in different languages, because that's really probably the only way I can continue to give you a varied product when it comes to game recaps.
Randy Wells allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings yesterday, but two of those came in the sixth on a Carlos Lee home run that was thiiiiis close to going foul. ...
Cubs tv ratings in free fall
It’s not just the no-shows and unsold seats at Wrigley Field. Cub fans are not only showing disapproval with their wallets, they are also showing it with their time. Less and less are taking time to watch the Cubs on tv. How much less? How about almost a 40% decline in viewership, compared to last [...]

Obsessive Ted Lilly Trade Watch: Will the Angels Enter the Fray?
When the Los Angeles Angels acquired Dan Haren from the Diamondbacks, most assumed their pursuit of a starting pitcher was at an end. And they almost certainly would have been right. But then yesterday, Joel Pineiro suffered a left oblique strain that will keep him out for the next six to eight weeks – a [...]
